Frank X. Landrigan, 87, Of Ramsey

RAMSEY, N.J. -- Frank X. Landrigan, 87, of Ramsey, died Oct. 13.

He was born Jan. 9, 1929. 

A New York University graduate and financial analyst, he retired in 1989 having worked 43 years in public accounting, U.S. Navy, local hotel, defense contractor and the Port of Authority of NY and NJ. 

A yeoman in the US Navy, he served during the Korean War on maneuvers in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, Baltic Sea, Arctic Ocean and Irish Sea. In 1952, his destroyer, the USS Melvin DD680 was damaged in a collision with the Swedish Motor ship (freighter) Stavangerfjord while passing through the Straits of Gibraltar. 

He was a former Grand Knight of North Bergen Knights of Columbus Council 3630, and a member of Augustus American Legion Post 273 in Madeira Beach, Fla., which has the largest membership in the world. 

Active in politics, he ran for North Bergen commissioner, the North Bergen Board of Education, Hudson County Sheriff, Hudson County Executive, Hudson County Surrogate and state Assembly. 

He is survived by his wife, Rita M. Ruffino; children, Kevin, Terence and Kathleen; and nine grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his wife Mary Lou Landrigan; son, Eugene; and siblings, Grace Johnson, Ruth, Bob, Jack, James and Claire Landrigan.

There will be a funeral service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Macagna Diffily Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., Rutherford. Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
