MAHWAH, N.J. — Longtime Mahwah resident David S. Cole died Monday, May 2. He was 89.
A Dumont native, Cole served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Before retiring, he was a mortgage banker at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.
Cole was a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church and was the owner and operator of the Old Mill Furniture Stripping in Midland Park.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Cole; daughters Susan Cole and Barbara Conkling; step-daughter Debbie Murphy; step-sons Christopher Lewis and Duff Lewis; longtime friend and "honorary daughter" Nancy Ruffino; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Cole's memory may be made to the Northside Food Panty, C/O the Wyckoff Reformed Church.
Arrangements are by Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff.
