The 3-year-old pit bull mix was dropped at a southern shelter last year after delivering four puppies. A local rescue just so happened to have been there at the time and took the dog and her puppies back to New Jersey.
Fair Lawn animal transporter Steve Quilliam connected mama pup Sheila to Holmes and her son, Logan DeCastro.
“She is the sweetest, most affectionate animal I’ve ever owned without a question,” said Holmes, 35, who volunteered in public shelters years ago. “I can’t understand how anyone gave her up.”
Holmes says rescue is the only way to go when it comes to animals.
“I’m really happy about the law that New Jersey just passed,” she said. “I hope other states will follow.”
