Campaign Aids Mahwah Couple, Condo Complex Fire Victims Expecting Baby

MAHWAH, N.J. — More than $5,700 had been raised as of Monday evening on a GoFundMe page launched for a Mahwah couple that lost its home in the Feb. 2 condominium complex fire.

Matt and Jennifer Peters of Mahwah lost their home in a complex fire. They're expecting their first baby in April.

The page was started by Juan Pla and Toni Nazzari of Dumont to aid Matt and Jennifer Peters, whose unit was among the twenty-four that were declared uninhabitable after the 4:30 p.m. fire ripped through the Society Hill condominium complex.

That fire pushed 9-year-old Sofya Doroshenko to take a leap of faith from her third floor balcony into the arms of Mahwah police officers.

With Jennifer Peters is expecting a baby boy at the end of April, the couple needs all the help they can get.

“There is never a good time for something so terrible to happen, but this is definitely something this couple does not need now,” Pla wrote on the page.
