The kickoff is on Sunday, March 6, at Eastwick College at 3 p.m.

Go to www.lightenupramsey.com and click on register at the top of the page.

The Strive for 5 challenge involves making a real effort to eat two fruits and three vegetables every day of the week for four weeks straight.

At the end of each week, participants enter the number of days they or their family (collectively) met the goal on the Lighten Up Ramsey website (honor system). When the four weeks are up, participants with the greatest number of successful days will be eligible for rewards.

To improve chances of meeting the challenge, adults are encouraged to attend the "Talk and Tasting" sessions for ideas on how to make fruits and vegetables tempting and very delicious.

See the www.lightenupramsey.com website for more details about the challenge and a poster contest for children from 4-12.

The Strive for 5 kickoff is on Sunday, March 6, at 3 pm at Eastwick College. Bring the family.

The first day for counting the "5" is Monday, March 7. The last day is Saturday, April 2. Strive for 5 is sponsored by the Ramsey Board of Health and Ramsey ShopRite. Lighten Up Ramsey is back--with an exciting new theme and new partner.

For 2016, the Ramsey Board of Health is collaborating with Ramsey ShopRite to bring you the Strive for 5 Challenge.

Research shows that this one habit can offer great health benefits to those who commit to "5." These benefits include managing/preventing diabetes, lowering cholesterol, slimming down, having more energy, just to mention a few.

At the kickoff on March 6, there will be a children's session about fruits and vegetables and a poster contest so that children up to age 12 can demonstrate their ideas about the value of fruits and vegetables.

Every Monday after the launch --March14, 21, 28 -- there will be two "Talk and Tasting" educational sessions led by Sondra Tackett, ShopRite's in-store dietitian. The sessions will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Ramsey Library and 7 p.m. at Eastwick College's Administrtive Building's conference room on Lake Street.
