Mahwah Talk To Cover History of Iron Mines In North Jersey

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Ralph Colfax, president of the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society, will present "The Iron Mines of Northern New Jersey and Mahwah" on Thursday, May 12.

Colfax will discuss the rise and fall of the iron mining industry in the North Eastern Highlands. The program will explore over a dozen mining locations, including the large Ringwood group of mines; the almost-vanished Kanouse Mine in Haskell; the Roomy and Blue Mines, located in the Norvin Green State Forest; and several other known and forgotten sites.

The lecture is part of the Mahwah Museum Lecture series, and refreshments will be served. Admission is free for Museum members and $3 for non-members. To reserve a seat, contact programs@mahwahmuseum.org or call 201-512-0099.
