Camwren Cole, 25, was taken for what over the past few years has become a series of psychiatric evaluations at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, March 23.

It followed what police said was an assault at Cole's Kipp Street home.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and refused further medical attention, Police Chief Andrew McGurr said on Sunday.

Cole, meanwhile, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He remained in the secure unit of the hospital under Bergen County sheriff’s guard, records show.

Eighteen or so months ago, Cole jumped into the Hackensack River and then fought responders who struggled to pull him out.

It wasn’t nearly as violent -- or terrifying -- as the year before, when Cole smashed windows at a Teaneck pediatric office and a neighboring dry cleaners with a hammer after asking people if they were Jewish.

Patients, their loved ones and staff barricaded themselves in various rooms until responding officers seized the bloodied suspect.
