Landmark Liquor Store In Englewood Severely Damaged By Fire
Fire severely damaged a landmark business that has been part of Englewood's fabric for well over a century, officials said. The two-alarm blaze at I Wides Liquors on West Englewood Avenue broke out around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading past the front of the building and had the blaze under control in barely an hour. The damage nonetheless was significant enough to render the building uninhabitable. Although an official cause wasn't immediately released, fire officials said they didn't suspect any wrongdoing. NJ Teen Edan Alexander Believed Among Hostages Taken By Hamas
A 19-year-old man from Bergen County remains missing, and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says he may be among the hostages taken by Hamas. Edan Alexander, of Tenafly, was serving in the Israeli Defense Forces' Golani Brigade near the Gaza Strip and has not been heard from since the attacks on Saturday, Oct. 7, Murphy previously said. : Judge Imposes Requirements On Tenafly Council Prez, Son Released On Child Porn Charges
UPDATE: A judge in Hackensack released Tenafly Council President Jeffrey D. Grossman and his son from jail on Wednesday, but both must remain under house arrest at the family's home while they await trial on charges of child porn possession. Superior Court Judge David Labib didn't require electronic monitoring on Grossman and his son, Steven, during separate first appearances for both on Oct. 18. A Garfield ex-con with a violent criminal history was charged with firing a gunshot at another man in Englewood earlier this year. The second of back-to-back overnight residential burglaries in Cresskill turned into a home invasion when a group of intruders entered while people living there slept, authorities said.
