PA Family Killed In House Fire Had Broken Smoke Detectors: Report A Pennsylvania family died in a fire started by their Christmas tree overnight, 6abc reports. Heavy flames shot through the roof of the two-story Essex Court home in Quakertown around 1:30 a.m., claiming the lives of a father, his two sons and two family dogs. The victims were identified as Eric King, 40, Liam, 11, and Patrick, 8. Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Dumont Firefighters Douse Basement Blaze Dumont firefighters made quick work of an overnight basement fire Thursday that sent smoke through a home. Smoke alarms roused residents, who all fled the 2½ -story Virginia Avenue home safely, authorities said. Firefighters responding to the blaze shortly before 2 a.m. got in through a side door and had the bulk of it knocked down in roughly 15 minutes. The fire was declared under control less than a half-hour later. No injuries were reported. Did You Remember To Spring Forward For Daylight Saving Time? Did you remember to change your clock? Daylight Saving Time went into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, marking its 100th year. Local officials also recommend checking and changing batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.   Daylight Saving began during World War I and used again during World War II as an energy saving initiative. It didn't become a (mostly) nationwide event until the  Uniform Time Act of 1966. Arizona and Hawaii do not participate  Daylight Saving Time's eight-month run lasts through early November.
