Supermarket Brawl: Worker At Bergen Shop-Rite Beaten With Chair, Choked Out, Arrest Made
An outside employee on the job at a ShopRite in Rochelle Park beat another with a metal folding chair, then choked him out before fleeing, authorities said.
Leslie A. Mann, 53, grabbed the chair during an argument with a fellow privately contracted employee at the West Passaic Street supermarket, Police Capt. James DePreta said.
Mann, of Riverdale, hit the co-worker over the head with the chair several times, then punched him in the chest, knocking him to the floor, the captain said.
He then choked the victim with his hands until he lost consciousness, DePreta said.

Driver Had $1,000 In Counterfeit Cash, Loose Pills, More, Glen Rock Police Charge
An unlicensed motorist driving a car with faulty lights and bogus license plates was carrying more than $1,000 in counterfeit bills when he was stopped by a Glen Rock police sergeant, authorities said.
Sgt. Greg Carter stopped Erasmo J. Evangelista, 36, of Paterson on Lincoln Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. last weekend, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said

Morris County Man Nabbed In Hackettstown Bagel Shop Burglary, Police Say
A Morris County man previously put behind bars for a series of burglaries throughout North Jersey was found to be behind the recent break-in of a popular Hackettstown bagel shop, police announced.
Riverdale resident Joseph Demauex, 35, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief, Hackettstown Police said.
Demauex is accused of breaking into Budd Lake Bagel & Deli II on Mountain Avenue using the drive-thru window on Wednesday, Dec. 29, police said.

UPDATE: A Riverdale police officer was justified in shooting a fleeing suspect who slammed a vehicle into his patrol car, pinning him, following a pursuit that ended in Passaic County, a grand jury has found.
Officer Andrew Duffy had tried to stop Michael Rivera, 32, of Newark, who "jumped into a vehicle and started it" following a shoplifting at the Home Depot on northbound Route 23 the morning of Jan. 23, 2020, Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said Tuesday.

A Hudson County corrections officer is accused of shooting his lover and another woman dead Tuesday night in Newark, authorities said.
Police found Anna Shpilberg, 40, of Randolph suffering a gunshot wound at Edison Place and Bruen Street around 9 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

Fleeing Suspect, 32, Who Tried To Run Down Police Officer Killed In Bloomingdale
UPDATE: A fleeing suspect was shot and killed Thursday morning in Bloomingdale after trying to run over a police officer, authorities confirmed.
The chase began with a shoplifting on Route 23 in Riverdale around 9:30 a.m.
Riverdale police stopped an Acura SUV and had taken a suspect into custody when the driver hit the gas, responders said.
The chase ended at Matthews Drive in Bloomingdale, state Attorney Gurbir S. Grewal said.

Undercover vice squad detectives who raided a Paterson go-go bar found a dancer giving a patron oral sex in a lap dance booth, authorities said.
They arrested the owner, 62-year-old Thomas P. Humphrey of Riverdale, and his wife, Luciana, 45, along with four dancers, two bartenders and a security guard in the raid at Baby Dolls on Market Street, Police Director Jerry Speziale said Wednesday.
