Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Bus In Tenafly An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a commuter bus Sunday afternoon in Tenafly, authorities confirmed. The woman, 72, was struck by a northbound New Jersey Transit Bus as she crossed Highwood Avenue, just north of Hillside Avenue, at 3:54 p.m., Tenafly Police Capt. Michael deMoncada said. The victim as taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition, where responders said she was pronounced dead. The No. 166 bus to Cresskill from New York's Port Authority bus terminal apparently was turning right when it struck and ran over her, according to witnesses.  …

Driver Douses Bus Fire In Tenafly A driver got passengers off safely and used an extinguisher to douse a fire in the back of an NJ Transit bus Wednesday morning, authorities said. The fire broke out near the exhaust pipe on Engle Street near Elm Street in Tenafly shortly before 7 a.m., Capt. Timothy E. O'Reilly said. The four passengers were transferred to another NJ Transit bus on the same route, O'Reilly said. NJT towed the first bus, the captain said. Lodi Bus Rider, 69, Injured By Chemical, Authorities Say A bus passenger in Lodi had to hospitalized after she sat on what responders said was drain cleaner. The 69-year-old New York woman boarded the 164 bus near the corner of Essex Street and Maywood Avenue around 2:20 p.m. Sunday, sat down and immediately notified the driver of an injury, authorities said. Apparently “some type of liquid” on the seat “was causing a reaction on her leg,” NJ Transit’s Jim Smith said. NJ Transit Investigating After Man Falls Out Of Train In Secaucus A spokeswoman for NJ Transit blamed "human error" for a frightening incident Monday evening, when the doors opened on the wrong side of a train at the Secaucus Junction station, sending a man spilling out.  The man was not seriously injured and declined medical attention.  The incident occurred aboard a North Jersey Coast Line shortly before 6 p.m. The train was stopped at the station when the doors opened, sending the man tumbling onto the tracks.  The incident is under investigation, the spokeswoman said.
