Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Bus In Tenafly An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a commuter bus Sunday afternoon in Tenafly, authorities confirmed. The woman, 72, was struck by a northbound New Jersey Transit Bus as she crossed Highwood Avenue, just north of Hillside Avenue, at 3:54 p.m., Tenafly Police Capt. Michael deMoncada said. The victim as taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition, where responders said she was pronounced dead. The No. 166 bus to Cresskill from New York's Port Authority bus terminal apparently was turning right when it struck and ran over her, according to witnesses.  …

Driver Douses Bus Fire In Tenafly A driver got passengers off safely and used an extinguisher to douse a fire in the back of an NJ Transit bus Wednesday morning, authorities said. The fire broke out near the exhaust pipe on Engle Street near Elm Street in Tenafly shortly before 7 a.m., Capt. Timothy E. O'Reilly said. The four passengers were transferred to another NJ Transit bus on the same route, O'Reilly said. NJT towed the first bus, the captain said. Heroes: Port Authority Responders Rescue Dog Caught At Bottom Of Escalator A dog’s rear paw had gotten caught at the bottom of a Journal Square PATH station escalator when his yelps and owner’s desperate screams brought Port Authority Police Officers Anthony Manfredini and Matthew Maiello. Manfredini quickly hit the escalator’s emergency stop button while Maiello summoned an emergency service’s unit at the Jersey City transportation hub, PAPD Spokeswoman Lenis Valens said.
