Half Of Hackensack Is Flooded, Route 17 Shut In Hasbrouck Heights: Storm Update
Following fierce storms swept through the region Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, many roadways were still flooded and wet, making for treacherous commutes Wednesday, Aug. 7.
As of 8 a.m., Route 17 north was closed in Hasbrouck Heights at Route 46 due to flooding.
The borough's fire department shared scenes from local streets.

Emily Madden, Former Valedictorian, North Jersey Nurse, Dies At 27
Emily Madden, a nurse and Clifton resident, died on Sunday, July 21, according to her obituary on the Ferguson Funeral Home website. She was 27 years old.
Madden was the valedictorian of Wallkill Valley Regional High School's Class of 2015 before attending college and becoming a registered nurse, right before the COVID-19 pandemic, her obituary says.
"She was an incredible young woman with so much promise," David Carr, the superintendent for Wallkill Valley Regional High School said. "We are so sad to hear of her passing and our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Armed Suspect Found Sleeping Following Assault On Morristown Walking Path, Officials Say
An armed man accused of assaulting another person on a Morris County train system was found sleeping nearby, and promptly arrested, authorities said.
Ricardo Martinez-Bonilla, 31, of Morristown, had gotten into an argument around 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14 on Patriots Path in Morristown off Martin Luther King Avenue, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said.

Millburn Deli Being Sold To Jersey Mike's? Check The Date
The Millburn Deli gave its customers quite a scare with an announcement that ended up being an April Fool's Day joke.
On Sunday, March 31, the iconic deli, which has locations in Millburn, Morristown, Montclair and Westfield, told customers on Facebook it was being sold to Jersey Mike's.
Customers freaked out until the deli, a Millburn institution since 1946, revealed the ruse.
"We apologize for the scare and thank you for all the love," the deli wrote. "Millburn Deli has and always will be the Millburn Deli. Don't take your hanger out on our employees this week."

CFO Once Sued By NJ Firm Accused Of Embezzling $1.5M
A 61-year-old Westfield resident was charged with embezzling more than $1.5 million from the law firm where he worked as chief financial officer, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said.
John Dunlea was the CFO at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, a national law firm based in Morristown, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said.
