Two Emerson Towing employees had to remove a section of fence before they could tow the vehicle out and onto a flatbed following the crash where Mill Street makes a hard left into First Avenue around 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. Update: Seven Hillsdale Firefighters Injured In Westwood Blaze A recently-sold Westwood house that was undergoing renovations went up in flames overnight, injuring seven Hillsdale firefighters. The firefighters were checked out for what turned out to be minor injuries at nearby Pascack Valley Medical Center (HUMC) after a porch roof collapsed on them in the 5:30 a.m. Oakland Avenue blaze on Wednesday. "While attempting to make a push, the porch roof collapsed," their department said. "All were removed, with minor assistance." Prosecutor: Westwood Officer Fired Shot After Accused Old Tappan Burglar Refused To Drop Weapon UPDATE: A Westwood police officer fired a single shot during an overnight confrontation with a man who refused to drop a weapon moments after he tried to break into an Old Tappan residence, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said Monday. Dustin Van Riper, 22, fled the Old Tappan residence after borough police arrived there before dawn Friday, Calo said. Westwood police found him a short time later in a Mill Street backyard, he said.
