A Fair Lawn detective investigating a report of an attempted knifepoint street robbery quickly got a confession – from the alleged victim, authorities said. Joey T. Martinez, 29, of Paterson had called the police desk at 2:30 a.m. last month to report the failed holdup, Sgt. Eric Eleshewich said. She then got another in her own name in November, he said. Using the bogus ID and a fake Social Security card, Garrido-Contreras opened three bank accounts -- and in January filed the…

"We’re usually quiet about this stuff, but the [law enforcement community] is just shocked," one said. "We get that there are people who can't afford bail, and so [bail reform] lets them stay out and work," the officer told Daily Voice. "But …

UPDATE: A couple was caught and a fugitive sought after a man was shot in the face in what authorities said was an attempted killing in an apartment above a Fair Lawn craft beer bar. Sharese Peeples, 32, was charged with attempted murder after she and two accomplices claimed the victim was shot during a home invasion by two others, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said Monday. Peeples also was charged with weapons offenses and lying to investigators, Calo said. Also charged with filing a false report was Steven Mitchell, a 31-year-old bus cleaner who lives with Peeples, the pros…
