A driver wanted for hitting a police cruiser with a stolen BMW was nabbed by Garfield police after he crashed into a pole, igniting a fire, and took off on foot, authorities said.
Garfield police spotted the orange 2020 BMW M4 shortly before noon Wednesday, March 27, after colleagues from Newark who were tracking the vehicle via GPS pointed them to Prospect Street after one of their vehicles was hit, Capt. Mario Pozo said.

Paterson Passenger, 15, Caught With Stolen, Loaded High-Powered Handgun: Police
Paterson police found a 15-year-old city boy carrying a loaded gun during a traffic stop, authorities said. It had been reported stolen out of Morris County, they said.
Detectives Suquan Gary, Mustafa Dombayci, John Traynor and Kenneth Kerwin found the weapon after stopping a late-model Kia whose driver blew a stop sign in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Keen Street, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.
The boy, who was sitting in the back seat, was carrying a Brand Herstal FN Five-seveN 5.7x28mm pistol reported stolen out of Mount Olive, he said.

A 17-year-old carjacker crashed while fleeing Paterson police in a sedan that he'd just stolen with a 5-year-old child inside, authorities said.
The owner had left the 2010 Nissan Altima running, with the youngster inside, in front of the Goody II Chinese and Spanish restaurant on Union Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.
All available uniformed officers and detectives flooded the area in response to the call, Speziale said.

A 14-year-old Paterson boy was among three people caught with a handgun and ski masks by an alert detective with the new Passaic Police Gang Unit, authorities said.
Investigators linked the trio to several armed crimes committed throughout the city – and there could be more, Police Chief Luis Guzman said.
Arrested around 8:45 p.m. Sunday were Keshawn Lawson, 22, and Zaheem Beal, 23, along with the teen, Guzman said.

A 15-year-old boy led Clifton police on a miles-long chase before his dirt bike slammed into a parked car, authorities said.
It began just before 6 p.m. Friday, when Officer Zachary Martin spotted the teen not wearing a helmet recklessly riding the green Kawasaki dirt bike with no license plates in the area of Mount Washington Drive and Vallely Road, Detective Sgt. Robert Anderson said.
He tried to pull the cycle over, but the teen kept going, Anderson said.

CLIFTON, N.J. -- A Chinese food deliveryman was beaten by three Garfield 15-year-olds who were all chased and caught by Clifton police, authorities said.
One of the teens lured the victim to the side of a Durant Avenue building, where the others were waiting, around 12:45 p.m. Monday, Lt. Robert Bracken said.
