A crash involving three dump trucks shut a portion of Route 80 Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2. A Bergen County HazMat unit also responded to the scene. Several large tow trucks arrived to remove dump trucks. This afternoon at 1:48pm Deputy 2, Rescue 1…

The roughly 189-acre wildfire burned near Fishers Pit, a sand and gravel pit in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township. In its final update, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the wildfire was 100 percent contained a…

The more recent blaze was quickly put out and had not flared back to life as of Thursday afternoon, but the state’s leading environmental group says this second fire since May underscores the danger the pla…

Playground Tire Mulch A Cancer Risk? Mahwah Parents Petition For Replacement
Recent findings do not indicate that the rubber used to make tire mulch on playgrounds and crumbs on artificial turfs poses a risk to public health. But a group of Mahwah parents says there are still chemicals in the mulch and better alternatives available. More than 538 signatures had been garnered on a Change.org petition launched by the group as of Sunday afternoon. The parents hope local education officials will replace the shredded tire mulch cushioning the ground at the George Washington, Betsy Ross and Joyce Kilmer school playgrounds with wood fiber -- ASAP. Mercury, lea…
