: SWAT Standoff In Mahwah Ends Quickly, Peacefully
π¨π£πππ§π (π/π£ππ’π§π’π¦): A brief standoff in Mahwah ended peacefully when a barricaded man emerged from his home and surrendered to police. The immediate neighborhood had been cleared and streets closed off Campgaw Road near Campgaw Mountain and Darlington County Park after tactical officers and other law enforcers converged on the area early Friday afternoon, March 8. A Bergen County Regional SWAT team and negotiators joined Mahwah officers and their police colleagues from surrounding towns who established a perimeter around the house. Civilians, Police Need Decon After Officer Dispenses Pepper Spray In Dispute At Bergen Lake
Nearly a dozen people had to be treated at a Bergen County lake after a sheriff's officer responding to a dispute dispensed pepper spray, authorities said. It began when one group of mostly juvenile lake-goers at Darlington County Park got into an argument that somehow involved another group. Because Darlington is a county park, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton has officers stationed there during peak hours. His officers responded to the dispute and summoned Mahwah police. Divers Search Mahwah Lake For Drowned Paddle Boarder
UPDATE: The body of a drowned paddle boarder was recovered from a Mahwah lake Tuesday afternoon, responders said. The body of the 24-year-old victim from Mountainside Avenue was found in 15 feet of water shortly before 3 p.m. He wasn't immediately identified by name. The boarder had lost his grip and fell into Dators Pond at the foot of Stag Hill Road early Thursday evening, responders said. His older brother then paddled to shore shouting for someone to call 911, Mayor Jim Wysocki said.
