NJ Dairy Queen Operator Violated Child Labor, Wage Regulations: Feds
A New Jersey Dairy Queen franchise owner is facing a blizzard of fines. The U.S. Department of Labor has determined Kostantine Menegatos, who operated four DQs in the Garden State, violated federal child labor and wage regulations, forcing him to pay $14,000 in penalties and more than $9,000 in back wages. Menegatos failed to pay one employee minimum wage and did not pay 14 workers time and a half overtime premium for working more than 40 hours in a work week, the DOL said. ': SUV Barrels Through Two Ridgefield Shopping Center Lots Without Hitting Anyone
A driver climbed out of her SUV after it careened through the parking lots of not one but two small shopping centers off Broad Avenue in Ridgefield. The driver was hospitalized with what were considered relatively min…

Maha Khurs, 29, fought with -- and spit -- on police who charged her with several offenses, Lt. James DePreta said Wednesday. Khurs, who lives on Staten Island and has a residence in Rochelle Park, pulled a 5-inch folding knife on employees at the Rochelle Avenue 7-Eleven and demanded cigarettes around 10:30 p.m. Tue…

A Year Sober: Recovering Allendale Addict’s Cycle Event Supplies Narcan For Responders
A recovering heroin user from Allendale celebrated a year of sobriety by sponsoring a stationary bike ride that helped help supply borough responders with Narcan. Emily Somerville, 22, organized the “Ride for Recovery,” a 45-minute cycle class in front of Define, Body and Mind, CKO Kickboxing, Dairy Queen and Asian Cuisine last week as a celebration for those in recovery. At the same time, she raised funds to re-supply the police and ambulance corps with the life-saving anti-opioid drug. “Like all medications, Narcan does expire,” Police Chief George Scherb said. “Each Allendale officer i…

Allendale Police Bicycle Helmet Safety Sweep: Get Prize -- Or Summons
Giving Allendale youngsters who wear their helmets while riding bicycles and skateboards downtown fun prizes was such a success last year that borough police are doing it again – with even more sponsors. And just like last year, parents of those kids who don’t wear helmets could find themselves in court. Officers are distributing coupons to young riders under 17 who wear their helmets. Those chosen get free: Dairy Queen ice cream cones; Dunkin’ Donuts doughnuts; Sky Zone Trampoline Park jump time; pizza at Village Pizza and Toscana Pizza, bagels at Bernie's Bagels. As for parents of youn…
