Scooter-Riding Youngster Struck By Landscaping Vehicle In Demarest: Police
A youngster was hospitalized after being struck by a landscape vehicle while riding a scooter Friday morning in Demarest, authorities said. The crash occurred at the corner of Prescott Street and Hardenburgh Avenue around 9 a.m. May 26. A medical chopper was summoned at first. That was canceled, however, and Cresskill Fire Department EMS members took the boy to Hackensack University Medical Center. Roaring Shed Fire Doused In Cresskill
A July 4th fire consumed a shed and damaged two homes in Cresskill. The fire ignited just 15 feet from the Beechwood Road home just off Knickerbocker Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday, responders said. Everyone in the house got out OK and no injuries were reported. The house and a neighbor's house sustained some damage, as did nearby trees and a length of wooden fencing. The blaze "appeared accidental in nature, pending the results of an investigation," Cresskill Fire Chief Christopher S. Ulshoefer said. Dumont Pedestrian Struck In Cresskill, Demarest Driver Cited
A 40-year-old pedestrian from Dumont was struck and injured crossing a Cresskill street Tuesday night, authorities said. A Cresskill Fire Department EMS unit took her to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after a 2011 Mercedes Benz hit her on County Road at the intersection of Union Avenue just after 6 p.m., Detective Sgt. Jason Lanzilotti said. The 66-year-old driver from Demarest received a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, he said.

Cresskill Firefighters Contain Pre-Dawn Cafe Fire
Cresskill firefighters contained a smoky overnight blaze Tuesday to the kitchen of a local cafe. The fire at the Farmhouse Cafe & Eatery on East Madison Avenue broke out shortly before 4:30 a.m., Fire Chief Christopher Ulshoefer said. The cause appeared to be electrical, he said. An aggressive interior attack contained the fire to the kitchen, avoiding extensive damage, the chief said. Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Dumont Firefighters Douse Basement Blaze
Dumont firefighters made quick work of an overnight basement fire Thursday that sent smoke through a home. Smoke alarms roused residents, who all fled the 2½ -story Virginia Avenue home safely, authorities said. Firefighters responding to the blaze shortly before 2 a.m. got in through a side door and had the bulk of it knocked down in roughly 15 minutes. Hero Driver Gets Students Off Burning Cresskill School Bus
CRESSKILL, N.J. — A bus driver got two students out of the vehicle before it erupted in flames Wednesday morning, authorities said. The Valley Transportation driver said he was traveling north on Knickerbocker Road when he observed smoke coming from the engine around 8:50 a.m., Cresskill Police Detective Charles Franke said.
