Firefighters extricated a heavily trapped driver after a tractor-trailer and pickup truck collided on Route 17. Hasbrouck Heights firefighters were assisted by their Wood-Ridge colleagues in freeing the female pickup driver following the crash behind the Bendix Diner shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17. 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: Investigators were probing the cause of a multi-truck fire in Ridgefield that sent up a column of black smoke visible for miles. No injuries were reported in the three-alarm blaze, which ignited behind the Hanjin warehouse on Railroad Avenue near Pleasantview Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3. At least four box trucks and rigs were destroyed or severely damaged. Fleeing Driver Returns After Slamming Into Pole, Rolling SUV In Bergenfield
An unlicensed 28-year-old driver from Bergenfield who knocked down a pole and rolled his SUV while making an illegal turn at high speed before dawn Tuesday fled the scene and then returned, authorities said. Neighbors brought water bottles and firefighters from Rockland joined their colleagues on the New Jersey side of the border in dousing a garage blaze in Mahwah. An exhaust fan broke, filling part of Dumont High School with neutralized sulfur fumes Monday afternoon, responders said. Neither the Science Department teacher involved nor any students or staff were injured or exposed in the incident just before 2 p.m., responders said. Dumont Fire Chief Mark Abdulla called the incident a ventilation issue and not a spill.
