Nearly 10 Pounds Of Pot Found In Haledon Pickup Stop: Bergen Driver, NY Passenger Arrested
A driver not wearing a seatbelt led to the discovery of nearly 10 pounds of pot and the arrests of two men -- one from Bergen County, the other from New York State -- Haledon police said. Officers Jeffrey Welsh and Kris Duci stopped the 2008 Dodge Ram near the corner of Central Avenue and Ailsa avenues, Capt. George Guzman said. The officers got conflicting statements from both men, who'd been acting suspiciously, Guzman said. Haledon Police Seize Gun From North Carolina Man During Traffic Stop
Two Haledon police officers seized a handgun from a passenger from North Carolina during a traffic stop, authorities said. Officer Jeffrey Welsh and Class II Special Police Officer Nicola Onnembo stopped the rented 2021 Chevrolet Equinox at the intersection of Pompton Road and Ailsa Avenue on Pompton Road late Saturday, Lt. Haledon PD: Jersey Shore Ex-Con Flicking Cigarette Ashes From Car Caught With Loaded Gun
An ex-con who flicked cigarette ashes from a speeding car had a loaded gun hidden under the seat, Haledon police said. Officer Jeffrey Welsh smelled raw pot as he approached the 2005 Infiniti sedan during a stop on Pompton Road near Ailsa Avenue, Lt. George Guzman said. Joined by Special Police Sgt. John Jones and a William Paterson University police officer, Welsh found a .44-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun loaded with six bullets under the front passenger seat and a bag of marijuana in back, Guzman said.
