Three Teachers Named Wallington's B.E.S.T.

WALLINGTON, N.J. -- Tracey Kalender, John Slanina and Danielle Rood were honored as Wallington's B.E.S.T. for February.

Kalender is a 13 year veteran and is a teacher of Physical Education and Health at both Wallington High School and the elementary schools. Recently, Mrs. Kalender has distinguished herself by organizing multiple presentations by Bergen County Alternatives to Domestic Violence program. She also took the initiative to collect funds from faculty and staff to create a gift basket for the David Popek Jr. Memorial Scholarship Beefsteak/Tricky Tray.

Slanina has been a Science teacher at Wallington Jr./Sr. High School for 13 years. He is also an assistant track coach, co‐advisor to Grade 10 and advisor of the Robotics Club. Over the past few weeks, he has worked diligently with 16 eighth graders to build robots from a kit for a competition sponsored by the South Bergen Jointure.

Rood is in her second year as a teacher in the district. Last year, she worked in both the elementary schools and WHS as a Math and Special Education teacher.  Rood has distinguished herself by using a variety of strategies with her students who have special needs. She has also distinguished herself by teaching SAT Prep classes, and by sharing her knowledge of how to use Google Apps in with colleagues.
