Gina Barakat of Moonachie told officers who responded to the Tuesday night crash on Moonachie Avenue that she was behind the wheel at the time.

However, witnesses told police otherwise.

Dawn Fort of North Arlington “denied driving the vehicle,” while her sister “insisted she was the driver,” Detective Joseph Rutigliano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Before the episode was over, police had charged Fort, 49, with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests and driving without a license.

Barakat, 44, was also arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension of another and allowing a motorist to drive while intoxicated.

Both were released on summonses pending a court hearing.
