Detective Sgt. Joseph Rock was patrolling the area of Locust and Maple Avenue on Tuesday when he spotted 19-year-old Patrick Jezewski, Detective Lt. Shawn Kudlacik told Daily Voice.
Known to police, Jezewski was suspected in a vehicle break-in days earlier, Kudlacik said. Police also received a report of another car burglary over the weekend on Tuttle Street, in which a wallet with credit cards was taken, he said.
Jezewski tried to hide behind a parked car, but Rock grabbed hm, Kudlacik said.
Detectives at headquarters charged him with two more vehicle break-ins that were caught on surveillance video by a business in a Locust Avenue shopping center about a block from where Rock found Jezewski, the lieutenant said.
One of the owners told police she was removing groceries when she found a cellphone in her car that Kudlacik said apparently belongs to Jezewski.
The woman also reported a key fob missing -- the same type that police seized from Jezewski when he was arrested, the lieutenant said.
A judge ordered him held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on four counts of vehicle burglary and one of theft.
