Detective Lt. Shawn Kudlacik and Officer Joseph Dec responded to the May 13 burglary afternoon call to the area of Wallington Avenue near the Market Street Bridge, Police Chief Carmelo Imbruglia said Tuesday.

A witness pointed them to a spot over the bridge off Third Street.

While searching the area, with three Passaic officers, Kudlacik spotted 24-year-old Angel Miguel Perez of Passaic carrying an axe.

The lieutenant ran across the street and took Perez into custody without incident.

Perez was charged with burglary and released pending a May 23 hearing.
