The detectives spotted 24-year-old Adam Jaworski walking on Main Avenue toward the Gregory Avenue Bridge on Wednesday, then ordered him to put his hands on their car so they could take him into custody, Detective Capt. Shawn Kudlacik told Daily Voice.
As the detectives prepared to handcuff him, Jaworski "muttered a few words, then attempted a full out sprint North on Main Avenue," Kudlacik said.
He then "tripped on the macadam and was quickly apprehended," the captain said.
A judge ordered Jaworski held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
He's been there before.
Jaworski has a criminal history that includes arrests by Garfield police and Passaic County sheriff's officers for, among other offenses, attempting to elude police, burglary and possession of a hypodermic needle, records show.
