A caller just after midnight Wednesday told responding officers that the taxi had been stopped at Van Winkle Avenue and Mercer Street, the engine running, for nearly an hour, Police Chief Carmelo Imbruglia said.

Asked for his paperwork, Dominik Frydel, 22, said he had no license, Imbruglia said.

An NCIC check found an outstanding warrant from Passaic County while a search turned up the heroin, bags and a white ceramic cigarette pipe, as well as a large purse with the items reported stolen during several burglaries in New York the chief said.

Wallington police charged Frydel with possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen property, as well as driving while suspended and throwing debris from a motor vehicle. Then they turned him over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.
