Wallington bank robber same as in Lyndhurst?

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS THE SCOOP: Authorities are trying to determine whether a robber who took more than $100,000 this morning from a Wallington TD Bank is the same one who vaulted the counter its Lyndhurst branch off Route 17 and bolted with more than $10,000, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the holdups told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Investigators are still assembling details. But they apparently have reason to suspect a possible connection to the August holdup at a TD branch on New York Avenue in Lyndhurst.

In that one, the robber, wearing a Halloween mask, fleece hoodie and blue jeans that drooped to reveal plaid Joe Boxer trunks, “vaulted over the counter, took an undisclosed amount, and ran east on New York Avenue,” Lyndhurst Police Chief James O’Connor told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at the time.

The chief said the bandit bolted through an alley between the bank and Organic Cleaners, dropping twenty-dollar bills along the way.

He apparently was headed to a spot where someone may have been waiting to pick him up or he’d parked a getaway car — none of which has yet been officially confirmed, O’Connor told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The FBI figures that robber is anywhere from 20 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-9, with a medium build.

This morning’s holdup occurred at the TD branch on Paterson Avenue in Wallington.
