Video: Lyndhurst Firefighters Contain Three-Story House Blaze

LYNDHURST, N.J. -- A candle left burning ignited a Lyndhurst house fire on Friday, authorities said.

First Assistant Chief Joseph Abruscato confimed heavy smoke running the east side of the there-story residence from a second-floor bedroom and extending throughout the third floor as crews responded to the unoccupied Second Avenue home around 11:20 a.m., Police Capt. John Valente told Daily Voice.

Borough firefighters brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes or so with an aggressive interior attack assisted by a North Arlington ladder and Rutherford and East Rutherford engines, due to the extremely hot weather, Abruscato said.

This, Abruscato said, was responsible for "stopping a rapidly spreading fire" in the balloon-constructed, wood-frame house.

Secaucus Engine 1 and Moonachie Ladder 1 stood-by at the Lyndhurst firehouse, the captain said.

Lyndhurst EMS remained on scene for precautionary measures, he said.

The Lyndhurst building inspector deemed the residence uninhabitable. PSE&G cut its gas and electric.
