Described as black and nearly 6 feet tall and 200 or so pounds, the robber used a light-colored t-shirt or towel he had around his neck to cover his mouth and nose as he entered the Kearny Bank on Stuyvesant Avenue around 1:45 p.m., Capt. John Valente said.

He "walked up to the counter and demanded money from the teller," then "produced a plastic bag with which he used to carry the cash out" through a rear exit, Valente said.

He was wearing blue jeans, a dark t-shirt, a dark-colored baseball cap and sunglasses the captain added.

No weapon was shown and no one was injured, he said.

(ALSO: Three hours later, a bank in Ridgewood was robbed.)

Bank officials were still tallying the amount taken, Valente said.

The F.B.I. responded, as did the Bergen County Sherriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which collected evidence.

Lyndhurst detectives were reviewing surveillance video from the bank and surrounding businesses.
