Sgt. Richard Jarvis, responding to the call in the 600 block of Third Avenue, spotted Flavio Arandi a block east near Orient Way, Capt. John Valente told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The package was found in a recycling bin next to a nearby residence, Valente said. It was opened but the contents — a pair of shoes — were still inside, he said.

Jarvis and Officer Chris Cuneo took Arandi into custody on charges of theft and destruction of evidence, the captain said. He was turned over to Clifton police on a $1,256 warrant.

Authorities urge residents to keep an eye out in their neighborhoods to help thwart package thieves.
