He also got an excellent look at the man with the knife — who has more than one distinguishing mark, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione said.
Newell Place, off Stevens Place, in North Arlington
The driver, who is in his early 30s, had turned down Newell Place off Stevens Place this afternoon when the pair pulled up in an older-model, burgundy Ford Explorer with tinted rear windows, Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
One man remained in the car while the other got out and threatened the delivery man with a military Ka-Bar knife, he said.
At one point, the attacker tried jabbing him but only cut the driver’s shirt, the chief said.
The serviceman then chased him back into the car, which pulled out of Newell and sped west on Stevens.
The driver described his attacker as:
- Hispanic;
- in his late 20s or early 30s;
- about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, with a stocky build;
- having a thin, chinstrap beard;
- with groomed eyebrows — a slit in one of them;
- wearing a black do-rag with knot on the right, a black, thermal-type hoodie with a front zipper;
- also wearing a red t-shirt underneath and faded blue jeans.
But there’s more:
Besides wearing a set of distinctive black rosary beads around his neck, the assailant has a tattoo written in script wrapped around the right side of his neck to the front, ending in the letter “K,” the driver told police.
He described the man behind the wheel of the Ford as black, in his late 30s, with a small patch of graying chin hair; wearing a black baseball cap and a blue denim jacket.
Although he didn’t get a full license plate, the FedEx driver said the tag included “T98.”
The vehicle also has a sun roof, he said.
