A witness reported seeing one of the men waist-deep in the river during a search that included Bergen County Sheriff’s K9 officers, boats, and both county and local police from surrounding towns.
“The tides do get low enough that you can walk across certain sections to the Passaic side,” Lt. Shawn Kudlacik told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
The homeowners called police after surprising the intruders and finding their house ranacked around 1 p.m.
Both men were white — one with blond hair and black shorts and the other wearing a grey t-shirt and tan shorts, they said.
“We’re following leads,” Kudlacik said, noting that a pair of gloves were among the items dropped by the fleeing bandits that police recovered.
