“You wouldn’t have known we were there until we made entry,” Lyndhurst Police Chief Jim O’Connor told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.
Neigbors in the multi-family house on Second Avenue called police because the 40-year-old man was blasting music in the middle of the night.
He refused to open the door when responding officers knocked, then made the comment that raised concerns, O’Connor said.
“He just went through the death of one of his parents,” the chief said. “He’s really in a bad place psychologically.
“Based on past incidents we’ve had with him, we decided to take the safe route and use our SWAT team,” O’Connor said.
Moving quickly, the officers evacuated the building, forced their way in and found the man inside, uninjured, he said.
He was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for an evaluation.
