Dorothy L. Duerr was crossing the street at the Garden Terrace apartment complex when she was struck by a car driven by 52-year-old Robert Taffin, also of North Arlington, around 4:15 p.m. Friday, police said.

She was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

Taffin was issued summonses for careless driving, failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and having tinted windows, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The case is being investigated further by Sgt. Robert Reilly and Officer David Ryan, the chief said.

A memorial service was held for Duerr this morning at Biondi Funeral Home in Nutley.

Born in Orange, Duerr lived in North Arlington for several years. She worked for 31 years as an administrative assistant at the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company in Newark.
