A security guard at the Riverview Gardens complex reported hearing possible shots fired from the west just before 2 a.m., said Police Capt. John P. Hearn, the officer in charge of the department.

Several officers searched the area for an extended period, but “nothing could be found and no further similar sounds could be heard,” Hearn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“As of this time, we have not received any calls from anyone else that would lead us to believe actual gun shots were fired in that location,” the captain said just after noon.

It’s the time of year for fireworks and “after our recent incident that type of sound certainly has us all on edge a bit more than usual,” Hearn said. “But as of this time every indication of shots being fired last night is unfounded.”
