The 32-year-old officer, hired in July, sustained a broken hip and ribs and internal injuries, authorities said.

His car slammed into a utility pole on the driver’s side door while headed south on Schuyler Avenue around 10 o’clock last night, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Investigators from Ghione’s fatal crash team and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit were investigating.

“We believe the car hit either a puddle or patch of oil,” the chief said.
