With help from their Belleville colleagues, borough detectives identified Wayne V. Barnes, 47, as their suspect and arrested him at his home Monday night, Capt. Scott Hedenberg said Tuesday morning.

They also "located the clothing used during the incident, as well as a metal pipe," Hedenberg said.

Police hours after the holdup released surveillance images of the robber, who the captain said threatened the attendant with the pipe while demanding money in an office area of the Ridge Road LukOil gas station just before 9 p.m. Dec. 3.

The employee turned over several hundred dollars and the robber took off with it, getting into a two-door vehicle with a partial New Jersey license plate of "NFD," Hedenberg said.

The car then headed west on Albert Street, he said.

Barnes was being held on $57,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with armed robbery, theft and weapons possession.
