The victim ran into an office at Ridge Road and the Belleville Turnpike around 3:30 yesterday afternoon to dial 911, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Asked for identification at the scene, the suspect, Devin Hunter, went to his car to retrieve it.

There, an officer noticed three bags of pot, Ghione said.

The officer was slightly injured during a scuffle with the 31-year-old, confirmed Bloods gang member, who was subdued with help from two backup officers, the chief said.

Hunter, who already was wanted on warrants out of Hudson and Essex counties, was charged with three counts of assault on police, three counts of resisting arrest, hindering, and both possession of and distributing drugs.

Bail was set at $28,500.

If he made bail, police from the other counties would immediately take Hunter into custody.

Hunter’s criminal record shows arrests for:

six aggravated assaults;
10 drug possessions;
7 drug distributions;
handgun possession;
having a defaced firearm;
carrying hollow-point bullets,
robbery,
resisting arrest,
eluding,
receiving stoldn property.
