Lyndhurst PD: Special Needs Adult Charged With Asking Boy On Street If He Was Gay, Needed Ride

A special needs adult from Belleville was taken into custody after he approached a 15-year-old Lyndhurst boy, asked if he was gay, then offered him a ride home, authorities said.

"At no point did the suspect make or attempt to make physical contact with the juvenile," Detective Vincent Auteri said Thursday.

The teen told police he was walking home when 52-year-old Jeffrey Nobile approached him in the area of Kingsland and Riverside avenues around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Using his real name, he introduced himself, then asked the boy if he was gay and needed a ride, Auteri said.

The boy ran and called police from a nearby business, he said.

Based on a detailed description from the boy, Detective Rich Holicki identified Nobile as a suspect.

He was eventually charged with luring or enticing a child and sent to the Bergen County Jail.

A judge in Hackensack freed Nobile on Wednesday to the custody of his family.

Lyndhurst police thanked their Carlstadt colleagues for helping with the case.
