The elderly victim discovered the money missing when she tried paying her taxes, Wallington Lt. Shawn Kudlacik told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Obtaining her bank statements, the woman’s daughter-in-law found a series of withdrawals and notified police.

Kudlacik, working with bank officials, then discovered that 14 counter checks had been written from the victim’s account, beginning last September.

“Each one was executed and endorsed by Teller #3,” the lieutenant said.

Immediately afterward, Kudlacik discovered that the teller had left the bank.

After interviewing her, he charged the now-former teller, Monika Potcztarski of Clifton, with forgery and theft. She was released pending a Municipal Court hearing.
