Samuel Rua III, 33, of Union City was convicted of first-degee murder, along with six illegal weapons counts, following a week-long trial in which prosecutors presented video and other evidence that pointed to him as the killer of Nadjhier Barner-Timmons.
Rua stabbed the victim as they walked along the tracks near 26th Street and 18th Avenue in Paterson on April 25, 2015, Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor Jonathan Barrera said.
Authorities found Rua two weeks later about a block away, he said.
Superior Court Judge Sohail Mohammed revoked Rua’s bail and ordered him returned to the Passaic County Jail pending sentencing on April 27.
