The 40-year-old Harrison woman told police she stopped at the Lyndhurst post office on her way to work around 7:45 yesterday morning when Marlon Alicea, 38, confronted her.

“She tried getting into her car quickly, but he forced her into the passenger seat and got behind the wheel,” Lyndhurst Detective Capt. John Valente told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

Alicea raised his shirt to display what looked like a semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, the woman told police. As he drove around, she said, he shoved the gun into her side.

At one point, her phone rang, she said. The 6-foot, 205-pound Alicea grabbed it, saw that it was a male caller and smashed the phone, Valente said.

Eventually, he took her back to the post office, got out and threatened to kill the caller, the woman told police.

“She didn’t say anything at first, because she feared repercussions to her family,” the captain said. “Then she came in [to headquarters] last night.”

Lyndhurst detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alicea, then went looking for him at his Lake Hiawatha home. They eventually returned to Lyndhurst before getting a 3 a.m. call from Parsippany police, who’d picked him up on the warrant.

Alicea is being held on $150,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

He’s charged with:

  • kidnapping to injure or terrorize;
  • two counts of threatening to kill;
  • aggravated assault with a weapon;
  • two counts of illegal weapons possession;
  • destruction of evidence
