WALLINGTON, N.J. -- Joseph S. Slamiak, a lifelong resident of Wallington, died Wednesday, Jan. 27. He was 89.
Prior to his retirement in 1991, Slamiak was a truck driver for Ruzila's Express Service Inc. of Garfield for 38 years. He also was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 560 in Union City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and a member of the Wallington V.F.W. Pavlick Koster Post 2640. He was a parishioner of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus R.C. Church in Wallington and an exempt firefighter for the Wallington Fire Department Truck Company 1.
He is survived by his wife Irene; his son Joseph Slamiak and his wife Lisa of Wallington and Joanne Wendelken and her husband Martin of Elmwood Park; along with his grandson Patrick.
He was predeceased by his brothers Frank, Henry and Edward Slamiak; along with Victoria Puterko, Ellen Mueller, and Stella Schubert.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kamienski Funeral Home, 106 Locust Ave., Wallington during visiting hours from 2-4 p.m.
