Charles P. Belmonte, 93, Of North Arlington

NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -- Charles P. Belmonte, 93, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville. 

Born in Hoboken, he lived in North Arlington since 1960. 

He worked for the Port Authority at Newark Airport as an electrician and the Port Authority in New York City as a training supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1984. 

Belmonte served proudly in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II. During his seventh mission as a B17 bombe,r he was shot down over Germany and captured. He was a prisoner of war for nine months before being liberated. He was the recipient of several medals and participated in the Great March through Europe.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4697 and the American Legion Post #37, both of North Arlington and the Disabled American Veterans in Belleville. 

Belmonte served as a councilman in North Arlington from 1984-2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace Council #3428, the Happy Senior Citizens and the Nutrition Center, all of North Arlington, and a member of Helping Exceptional People (formerly the El Sheedy Caravan of the Alhambra ).

He was the husband of the late Angela Belmonte (nee Adduchio); father of Charles A. Belmonte and his wife Micki, Joanne Hazzard and her husband Gerry and Patricia A. Frelick and her husband Jeff;  grandfather of Tracey, Eric, Gerry, Kate, Nico, Sal and Francesca; and great-grandfather of James, Jake, Christian, Larry and Julian. 

There will be a funeral at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Road, North Arlington thence to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 10 Franklin Place, North Arlington, for a 9:45 p.m. funeral Mass. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum in North Arlington. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
