To the editor,
Our area was hit by a snow emergency that buried North Arlington and other nearby towns in 28 inches of snow. For a borough like ours, with narrow streets lined either side with parked cars and little open space to spare, any snow causes immediate problems.
As a Mayor who has seen a few storms in his day, I knew there was a chance Blizzard Jonas could have shut us down for awhile.
But what a great crew we have here in North Arlington. What amazing residents.
Every single borough resident, DPW employee, police officer, firefighter, volunteers and hired hands …. They all worked together and kept Blizzard Jonas under control.
I’m amazed at how few problems we encountered and how quickly issues were addressed, minimized and eliminated.
This was all due to the cooperation of our residents, who sprang to action and responded to emergency messages, were courteous and patient. Their cooperation made it easy for emergency workers and snow removal personnel to begin the monumental task ahead.
Simply by not throwing snow into the streets after shoveling made cleanup tasks go so much faster.
We had crews working around the clock and kept schools closed an extra day so we could physically remove snow from the streets.
By Wednesday, it was business as usual and school drop-off was seamless.
Of behalf of the North Arlington Council, I thank the residents for your assistance and patience and all of our employees for their hard work.
