Sounds straightforward, right? But with a dizzying array of options – everything from old-school red sauce joints to modern takes on Grandma’s homemade cooking to trattorias with gourmet pizzas -- the answer can be hard to answer.
We asked for your favorites; five have been narrowed down as part of our contest and those finalists are being profiled this week.
Voting continues until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
Grab a fork, read on, and let your fingers do the clicking.
The winner will receive a framed DVlicious certificate as well as the pride in knowing it offers a taste of Italy close to home.
Trattoria il Cafone, 7 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, (201) 933-3355
What Makes It Pasta Perfect: Its fusion focus means you can have traditional Italian dishes such as polenta with gorgonzola and mushrooms and Tagliatelle alla Trasteverina (mussels, olives, artichokes in light tomato sauce over tagliatelle pasta) AND rotisserie-grilled meats from its all-you-can-eat Brazilian style rodizio. Lamb, chicken, pork and beef is sliced fresh off the skewer and onto your plate. And for dessert, instead of the usual tiramisu and cannoli, you can indulge in a creme caramel (flan with strawberry ice cream.)
Worth Special Mention: Il Cafone, which has been around for about 20 years, has grown from a one-room bistro to a large “joint-cultured” restaurant with a faithful following. It has full bar so it isn’t necessary to BYOB, but you can bring your own beer and wine, the owners say. There is no corkage fee.
