Reaction was positive when the KROQ jock streamed Deaf Rhino’s “Hey You.”
“The deejay picked our disc out every time," said lead vocalist Adam Schlett. "So now it’s just finding ways to do that bigger and better."
Deaf Rhino will perform at Red Buddha Lounge Lyndhurst at 8 p.m. on Sat., March 26.
Having released their first album, "Dirt, Rust, Chaos," last spring, Schlett and bandmates Tommy Scerbo on bass, Jack Biamonte on drums and Pequannock's Bobby Weir on guitar know the path to success is steep.
Schlett, Scerbo, Biamonte and Weir had performed since 2011 as Easy Company but released their record as Deaf Rhino.
“There’s a lot of grand in the hole when you commit to doing something professionally,” Schlett said. “That’s the arena we put ourselves in. Our stuff has got to be up to snuff with what’s on the radio.”
All have day jobs that require balancing rehearsals and gigs. Meanwhile, they're pooling their money in hopes of buying a van and going on tour this winter.
“Everyone will be doing this independently to some variation because I know everyone in this band loves playing,” Schlett said. “We’re four dudes who play well together.
“It’s a labor of love.”
