The borough's mayor and council officiated a ribbon cutting with owner Joe Middletown and his wife and children, who look forward to serving the community with their family eatery.

Nonna Lisa is named in honor of Middletown's mother-in-law who passed in 1993. Italian dishes will be prepared at the restaurant in a grandmotherly way.

All meals are made to order and on the premises. In addition to the pizza, Middletown recommends the Chicken & Potatoes as well as Pasta Vodka.

“I think it’s great to see someone that wants to be a part of the community and is embracing the people in town,” North Arlington Mario Karcic said. “I already hear they’re being very generous, like sending pizzas to the football field, and that’s what we like to hear.”

Nonna Lisa is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon-midnight Friday and Saturday.

“The town of North Arlington is impressed with Nonna Lisa Pizza and recommends people try it,” North Arlington Mayor Joe Bianchi said. “We wish good luck to the family and North Arlington is behind them 100 percent.”

Nonna Lisa delivers to North Arlington, Lyndhurst and Kearny and are also available for catering throughout the area.

“We’re very excited we have another new business in town and it looks like we have someone dedicated to making this business in North Arlington work,” North Arlington Councilman Dan Pronti said. Pronti heads the borough's business association, and growth has been steady, he said.

The pizzeria is adorned with pictures of the owner's daughters, Lisa and Alissandra.

“I want people to know it’s a family place,” he said. “I want to show the town I’m old school and this is an old-school place. On a Friday night, when I ask my kids what they want for dinner, they say ‘pizza.’ When people here ask their kids where they want to go on Friday night, I want them to say ‘Nonna Lisa.’’’
