Bicyclist, 68, Killed In Bergen County Crash
A 68-year-old bicyclist died after crashing at the bottom of a steep hill in Park Ridge, authorities said. The victim wasn't wearing a helmet as he headed down Spring Valley Road when he crashed near Doxey Drive shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Park Ridge Police Capt. Joseph Rampolla said. Sgt.. Michael Babcock and Officer Scott Malloy called for a medical chopper and provided medical assistance to the victim, who suffered severe head trauma, the captain said. A troubled man was taken to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for an evaluation on Tuesday after authorities responded to his Montvale home. Police had conducted a welfare check after a friend told police the man had texted a photo of a shotgun while saying he intended to harm himself. A mechanic from Westwood had his hand crushed in a Thursday morning accident at a Park Ridge auto repair shop, authorities said. The 61-year-old employee was working on a vehicle Z Star Park Ridge Auto Repair at Kinderkamack Road and Park Avenue when his right hand was crushed between the motor and its mount shortly after 10:30 a.m., Police Capt. Park Ridge Firefighter Mark "Cookey" Eisen, 63, was recently placed on the National Kidney Registry after diabetes caused late-stage kidney failure. Fate intervened this weekend when an emergency room doctor revived a drowning 3-year-old boy pulled from a hotel pool near the New Jersey/New York border. Police who responded within a minute to the call of an unresponsive child at the Courtyard by Marriott on Chestnut Ridge Road in Montvale at 4:20 p.m. Saturday found Dr. John Blundell of Buffalo reviving the New York City boy, Police Chief Joseph Sanfilippo said.
